Club Delivers Special Needs Van
A request was sent out to the Potawatomi Division on November 10, 2009, asking for Kiwanians to do what Kiwanians are all about: Helping children and especially children served by Riley Hospital. A young man from Akron, Indiana, named Dillon, has had at least 25 surgeries at Riley Hospital and was in need a reliable transportation.
President Chad Duffy, of the Kiwanis Club of North Manchester brought the request to the club and the club was able to purchase a used special needs van from the Wiley family. Jennifer Wiley was the speaker for the program for the North Manchester club on November 17, 2009. She told the club that her family had just received a new van and wanted to pass along their old special needs van on to someone in need.
President Chad and First Lady Valeria DeLaughter purchased the van and with the help from many around the area, got the van cleaned, detailed, serviced and in good working order.
On Friday, December 11, 2009, the club delivered the van to Dillon and his family in Akron much to their surprise! What a wonderful early holiday gift!
