New Kiwanis Member sews for Kiwanis Parent Comfort Cart
1/18/2010 - District: Indiana - Submitted by: Beverly Fales

One of the best ways to keep a new member is to get them engaged in a service project – and Alan Wigent of the Nappanee Noon Kiwanis Club did just that!  Alan attended a Land of Lakes Division Council meeting where Erlene Nofziger of the Maple City (Goshen) Kiwanis Club was appealing for Riley Parent Comfort Cart contributions.  It was the fleece neck pillows that sparked Alan’s interest.  Asking Erlene to email him the pillow pattern, Alan, his mother Miriam, and son Roger set about creating 28 attractive fleece neck pillows for weary parents needing rest at Riley while they waited.  Another new member, Toni Bonacorsi, accepted the leadership challenge of collecting two large boxes of treats and personal care items for the Parent Carts. The “loot” was delivered to Indianapolis by Bill Fales, who was attending Kiwanis Indiana Foundation meeting.  “Many hands made light work” when serving the parents of young patients in their time of need.
